Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

The Costing Accountant is a key specialist role within the finance team, leading the development and delivery of a comprehensive costing function. This role is essential to ensure that Trust senior management has a clear understanding of Trust operational costs to support critical business decision making.

The Costing Accountant is responsible for producing Patient Level Information & Costing (PLICs) for internal audiences and also as part of mandatory national returns. The postholder will also represent the Trust at regional and national costing forums.

The role demands a high degree of collaboration with other Trust functions, particularly the Information Team due to the reliance on high quality activity data. The postholder will be highly numerate and will possess strong IT and data analysis skills including a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

The role will also support the development of stronger links between activity and income, as part of the national steer towards more activity based contracts. The postholder will be responsible for producing and interpreting internal and external benchmarking information.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance, the Costing Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, expected to contribute to the further development and improvement of the wider finance function.
